Counselling and Hypnotherapy

Does something from your childhood still affect you today?

Perhaps you're anxious, constantly overthinking or finding yourself repeating the same patterns without really understanding why.

You might find it difficult to say no, worry about upsetting people, put everyone else's needs before your own or struggle to trust your judgement.

Perhaps relationships feel harder than you would like them to. Or you may be very good at looking as though you're coping while privately feeling very different.

Sometimes we know our past is affecting us, even when we can't quite explain how.

Services

1

counselling sessions are tailored to your unique concerns, providing support as you navigate life's challenges. Through a collaborative approach, we empower you to overcome obstacles and create a fulfilling life. Using a blend of conversation and creative techniques such as sand tray work, pebbles, buttons, and other hands-on experiments we explore the connections between your past and present, helping you shape the future you desire.

2

Hypnotherapy sessions are a blend of talking therapy and hypnosis. Hypnosis is simply a natural state of mind where you relax into a comfortable state of awareness. As your body relaxes and your mind becomes more focused, you can gain deeper insight into the root cause of an issue. This heightened state of awareness allows you to explore underlying thoughts, emotions, or experiences, helping you make meaningful changes.

3

"EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) uses bilateral stimulation—eye movements, tapping, or sound—to help the brain reprocess distressing memories, reducing emotional intensity and forming adaptive associations. Highly structured, it desensitises emotional triggers from past trauma. When combined with hypnotherapy and talk therapy, it creates a powerful, multi-layered approach to healing."

Perhaps you:

  • Overthink conversations long after they've finished

  • Feel anxious without always knowing why

  • Find it difficult to say no without feeling guilty

  • Worry about upsetting or disappointing people

  • Put other people's needs before your own

  • Struggle to trust yourself or your decisions

  • Keep repeating patterns you thought you'd left behind

  • Find relationships difficult or exhausting

  • Carry shame, guilt or experiences you've never spoken about

  • Feel responsible for other people's emotions

  • Struggle to know what you actually want

  • Feel that something from your childhood still follows you around today

  • You might have spent years asking yourself: "Why am I like this?"

Therapy can offer somewhere to begin answering that question with curiosity and compassion rather than judgement.

What I can help with

Life can feel overwhelming, especially when you've spent years carrying things on your own.

People come to therapy for many different reasons, including:

  • Difficult childhood experiences – Growing up in environments where it didn't feel safe to express feelings, needs or opinions

  • Emotional neglect – Feeling unseen, unheard, dismissed or unsupported emotionally

  • People pleasing – Finding it difficult to say no, prioritise your own needs or disappoint others

  • Relationship difficulties – Challenges within romantic relationships, friendships, family dynamics or the workplace

  • Anxiety & emotional overwhelm – Persistent worry, overthinking, feeling on edge or struggling to cope with life's demands

  • Boundaries – Difficulty setting limits, speaking up for yourself or protecting your time and energy

  • Shame & self-doubt – Feeling not good enough, questioning yourself or carrying a harsh inner critic

  • Trauma & past experiences – Understanding and healing the impact of childhood or adult experiences

  • Grief & loss – Bereavement, family estrangement, relationship endings, life transitions or unmet childhood needs

  • Identity & self-discovery – Reconnecting with who you are, what matters to you and what you need

  • Depression & low mood – Feelings of sadness, hopelessness, emptiness or disconnection

  • Social anxiety & fear of judgement – Worrying what others think, avoiding situations or struggling to feel comfortable around people

  • Sleep difficulties – Insomnia, restless nights, racing thoughts or difficulty switching off

  • Fears & phobias – Specific fears, panic responses or anxieties that are affecting daily life

  • Post-traumatic stress – Lingering effects of experiences that continue to feel distressing or overwhelming

Whatever brings you to therapy, you don't have to navigate it alone.

I offer a safe, compassionate space where you can explore your experiences at your own pace, make sense of what's been difficult, and begin to find your voice.

How I work

Therapy with me is warm, down-to-earth and collaborative. I'll listen, ask questions, offer reflections and sometimes gently challenge you.

There can be humour in the room alongside difficult conversations. You won't be expected to do all the talking while I simply sit and nod.

We work at your pace.

You won't be pushed to disclose experiences before you're ready, and there's no expectation that we immediately delve into the most painful parts of your story.

I'm an integrative counsellor, which means I don't believe one approach works for everyone. Alongside counselling, I can integrate EMDR and hypnotherapy where appropriate, depending on what you need and what feels comfortable for you.

The relationship we build matters just as much to me as the therapeutic approaches I use. I want your therapy to be somewhere you feel heard, respected and able to be yourself.

What might change?

Therapy isn't about turning you into a different person. It's about helping you understand yourself well enough to have more choice in how you live your life now.

That might mean being able to say no without spending the rest of the day feeling guilty.

It might mean having a difficult conversation without replaying it for days afterwards.

You might begin trusting your own judgement instead of automatically looking to other people for reassurance.

You may recognise when you're putting everyone else's needs ahead of your own and start considering what you need too.

You might understand why certain situations affect you so strongly instead of criticising yourself for your reaction.

And sometimes the change is quieter:

"I understand myself now."

That understanding can be the beginning of doing things differently.

Initial 15-minute chat

Your initial 15-minute chat is a gentle starting point. It’s a chance for us to meet and for you to get a feel for whether I’m the right fit for you.

I’ll begin by explaining how the call works so you know what to expect, which often helps ease any nerves.

You’re then invited to share a little about what’s brought you to therapy, at your own pace. I’ll listen carefully and reflect back what I’m hearing so you feel understood from the outset.

I’ll briefly explain how I work, answer any questions, and we’ll check whether it feels like a good fit. If it does, we can look at next steps together.

There’s no pressure to commit. Just a calm, supportive space to begin.

Please note my therapy days are:

Monday and Tuesday - The Devon Clinic, Paignton

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - Langwells Therapy Room, Blackawton , near Woodlands leisure park.

Counselling client feedback

If you are looking for a perceptive, kind and intuitive counsellor, Hannah is the one! I really enjoyed our sessions together as she has a wealth of strategies and approaches and really listens to what you are wanting to achieve. I was very keen to be challenged rather than just listened to and Hannah gently guided me towards a more positive way of accepting the reality and moving forwards in my situation. I would highly recommend her and think you are lucky to have found her!
